2011 Artist Blog - Entry #6

Final Education (May 2006)

Ralf Stumpf is a Deustch 3D/2D artist (mainly does 3D sculpting) from Mülheim-Ruhr, Germany, who specializes in organic stuff such as stylized creatures, monsters, and cartoon characters but who can also do hard-surface, mechanical modeling. Stumpf is one of a kind with his own style and crazy ideas executed to their fullest extent, if not beyond that. His style differs from other artists we've looked at so far by the vivid, bright colors of his characters, and overall presentation of his work. I've included 6 art pieces of Stumpf just to show how varied and divers his works really are. He has an in-depth knowledge of composition, lighting, color, silhouette, planes, anatomy, and forms. His creations are unique, diverse, and can be read from the distance easily due to proper silhouettes and a sense of weight in the characters that he makes. Stumpf's design sculpts are filled with an immense amount of personality and emotion which makes them really stand out. They are also very memorable. I would have no trouble comparing his creations to the works of well-known studios such as those of Pixar and Walt Disney Animation - they are that good! This is an example of an artist who pours heart into his work. Stumpf takes such a great care when creating these awesome characters that nothing redundant is present. It is simple and effective, and that is how you please an eye of a viewer and an audience! Ralf Stumpf is a true master in his own right. (word count - 250)
